Contributors are a vital part of Red Bird Theatre.
In the spring of 2015, founding Managing Director, Michelle Hernick, and I shook on it and submitted our first grant application. I’d been thinking about a company for a long time, so I knew who I wanted to work with and what kind of work I wanted to do – but I didn’t have a name. In the draft of the grant application I’d written an “X” in every place the company name should have been. The day before it was due I landed on Red Bird Theatre.
I love cardinals – they stand out, they’re hearty, they have a beautiful song – and they can fly. Those were qualities I wanted a theatre company to emulate.
